Brags!!
The following are brags by Canadian Bloodhounds! Congratulations and "Way-to-Go" to all!!
The Search and Rescue Scene.......
In British Columbia during the month of August 2001 we've had a very exciting time for Bloodhounds. On August 16, on Moberly Lake just north of Chetwynd B.C. a man went missing. Ch. Heather's Technical Support MT (aka "Techs") and owner Pam Parchenski were called out. He worked the lake and made an alert to where the person was. Pam and Techs then left for vacation. Over the weekend Kim Bialkowski was contacted by Chetwynd Search and Rescue, as the missing man's family was putting pressure on the SAR group. The SAR group wanted Victoria, B.C.'s two bloodhounds to come up as they'd had more training in body recovery. So on Friday, August 24 Kim Bialkowski and Laurie Poole along with Ch. Heather's Old Jamaica Gumshoe TD, MT, CGC, TT (aka "Marley") and Scentrax Brenna Rose TDX, CD, CGC went to Chetwynd. Kim and Marley worked the shore-line and Marley alerted and swam out to were Techs had alerted the week before. Brenna and Laurie worked form a boat at a different time and Brenna alerted at the same spot. So all three dogs working at different times alerted to the same area. Two days later the man's body surfaced right where the dogs had alerted. All three dogs now have a confirmed find. What was good about this search was that the head of the North Region for the Provincial Emergency Program and the RCMP all witnessed Techs, Marley and Brenna working. They were very excited with what they saw as the area had been heavily contaminated and so much time had passed.

On August 23 on Prophet River at mile 229 of the Alaskan Highway a person on an ATV went missing. Again Pam and Techs were called out along with Garth Joyce and Ch. Heather's Candy in a Wrapper MT. The RCMP dog handler had requested them. Both dogs, working independently, alerted to an area in the river. Divers went down and recovered the body. Again, all the right people witnessed the dogs' working abilities. Pam and Techs now have two finds to their credit and Garth and Wrapper have one. Nice work folks! |

On March 28, 2004 Jan Skeldon and Ruby (HomeBrew's Legacy Red Ale, MTI) were certified for Search and Rescue Tracking in BC, Canada by Cpl. Gord Rutherford of the RCMP. Years of hard work led to this achievement and I am very proud of my hound and my K9 group the Powell River Canine Trackers. We have consistently had the largest number of certified SAR dogs in one community in BC, and Ruby is the first bloodhound here. |
